Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP)

Californians now have a simple way to limit how their personal information is collected and sold online.

The Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform (DROP) is a new, free state-run tool that allows California residents to request that data brokers delete their personal information and stop selling it.

DROP helps reduce unwanted spam, scams, and privacy risks by giving you more control over your data.

What Is DROP?

DROP is California's centralized tool for submitting data deletion and opt-out requests.

Instead of contacting hundreds of companies individually, DROP lets you submit one request that reaches more than 500 registered data brokers at once.

DROP is operated by the California Privacy Protection Agency as part of California's ongoing commitment to strong consumer privacy protections.

How DROP Works

Using DROP is simple, secure, and free.

Step 1: Verify Eligibility

Confirm that you are a California resident using the State's secure verification process.

Step 2: Create Your Profile

Provide basic information to help data brokers locate your records. You choose how much information to share.

Step 3: Submit Your Request

Your request is sent to over 500 registered data brokers at once.

Starting August 1, 2026, data brokers are required by law to begin deleting requested data within 90 days and must continue checking for new requests every 45 days.

Who Can Use DROP?

You can submit a DROP request if you are a California resident.

In some cases, you may also submit a request on behalf of:

  • A child
  • An elderly family member
  • Another eligible California resident

Your Privacy Is Protected

DROP is designed with privacy and security at its core:

  • Your information is only used to process your request
  • It is never sold or shared
  • You do not need to create a state account
  • Your data is stored securely and protected
